About the role:


Working within the People Shared Services Advisory team, the People Services Advisor role is the first point of contact to the business for front-end Human Resources support and advice, through short consults.

The role provides support to employees and managers in relation to HR services and processes meeting business requirements and complying with legislative standards.


This position can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane with Hybrid working arrangements available - 3 days in office per week.

Responsibilities for the Role include:


  • Short consults providing frontline guidance and advice to employees and responsible managers regarding human resources related matters and processes, in line with The Downer Standard and other legislative obligations; Escalate as required
  • Interpret human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and regulations and educate all stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures and protocol and relevant employment legislation requirements, by studying existing, new and anticipated legislation
  • Support the operations with mobilisation and demobilisation matters for respective projects including facilitation of redeployment and contracts of employment.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve recurring customer service issues and ensure the effective adoption of new systems, processes, and procedures within team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot root causes and address customer issues in a systemic way.

About You

  • Tertiary Qualification in Business or Human Resources (desirable)
  • Graduates welcome to apply
  • Relevant experience in a busy and time sensitive Human Resources role, supporting employees and managers with simple and complex queries; focus on front of business
  • Experience in Oracle Express HR, SAP, Our Downer Portal/Service NOW and Page up
  • Experience and/or interest in implementing and refining systems to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.
  • Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to set work priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience across the full range of human resources shared services including expertise in the relevant information systems.
