Your role at BOCSAR


The Research Manager leads the design and delivery of major policy and program evaluations carried out by BOCSAR and conducts research into the factors that affect crime and the efficiency, fairness and effectiveness of the NSW criminal justice system.

The Research Manager provides high level advice to BOCSAR's Executive Director and to internal and external stakeholders on how the Department of Communities and Justice can help to create a just and safe society.


What you'll do at BOCSAR


The Research Manager is responsible for independently planning, leading, and organising the work of the research team to achieve agreed objectives and ensuring that BOCSAR's research and publications conform to the highest standards of relevance, accuracy, objectivity and timeliness.

This role will negotiate on behalf of the Department with major stakeholders and will consult widely with interest groups.


What we're looking for
Essential requirements

  • Experience in program or policy evaluation.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in statistics, economics, epidemiology, psychology, or another discipline with a strong statistical component.

Strong capabilities in:

  • Managing and developing people: demonstrated experience in providing strategic leadership and oversight in a research setting and driving a culture of achievement.
  • Effective communication: particularly in translating technical and complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Delivering results: extensive experience and expertise in conducting quantitative evaluations and applied research.

The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research is a statistical and research agency within the Department of Community and Justice (DCJ) whose role is to analyse and report on trends and patterns in the criminal justice system.

It was established in 1969.

Our aim is to assist policy makers and administrators in the criminal justice system to develop and implement strategies which reduce crime, and provide a more efficient, effective and equitable justice system.
