Position Information:

Charlestown South Public School is located in Lake Macquarie region.

The school has an enrolment of 253 students which includes 22 Aboriginal students and currently has a FOEI of 63.

The school has been recognised as an Ambassador school due to sustained high performance across all areas. The school has a strong focus on evidence-based pedagogies, such as explicit instruction, to drive individual student growth.


Charlestown South is a close-knit community with extremely high parental involvement and a wide range of extracurricular programs, some of which include; Concert Band, Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Dance, Debating, Public Speaking, Environmental and Nature Play, Girls Can Group, Boys Strength program and many varied sporting pursuits.

The school values high expectations, quality community relationships and high quality teaching practice.

The school enjoys strong partnerships with Parents and Citizens group, Minimbah Local AECG and with the other schools in the Wiyellai Koa community of schools.

  • Strong pedagogical knowledge with capacity to provide engaged leadership to implement the curriculum reform agenda, underpinned by evidenced based practices and supported by high quality data processes and practices.

General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
