Area Business Manager - Component Solutions to join our team.


Job Purpose

  • This role provides overall leadership and accountability for profitability and performance of the Business Area profit centre in line with the overall Operations Strategy.
This position is a champion for cooperation and driving decisions that provide the best outcome for UGL.

This role involves interactions directly with current and potential customers as well as frontline interaction with Business Area production teams, other parts of UGL and CIMIC as well as contractors and suppliers.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the Business Area to deliver or exceed profit centre performance targets.
  • Support the Operations Manager in development and implementation of Newcastle Operations strategy in line with the M&M strategy and targets.
  • Develop and implement Business Area strategy in line with Newcastle Operations strategy and targets.
  • Interact with customers to develop new relationships and sources of revenue and maintain existing relationships.
  • Support the M&M Business Development team and other parts of UGL in securing new revenue.
  • Undertake regular and detailed reviews of contracts and customer portfolios to ensure control of work ensuring speedy identification and resolution of technical and commercial issues and risks.
  • Communicate customer issues with production teams and devise ways of improving the customer outcomes, including resolving problems and complaints.
  • Manage Business Area financial performance including developing budgets, tracking actuals, updating forecasts, managing WIP and REIB, analysing variances and initiate corrective actions.
  • Maintain Business Area forward work plan based on market intelligence including order book, pipeline and bluesky data to support revenue, work force and facilities planning.
  • Monitor production performance and support the Production Delivery Manager and production team to improve production performance metrics and achieve KPIs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the production areas to improve safety and quality, increase productivity and/or reduce costs.
  • Develop and maintain production capability in line with targets and strategy including facilities, equipment, workforce and rotable spares.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification and/or tertiary education in front line management, programme management, or production management, and/or an Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a production and/or plant maintenance environment.
  • Strong systems, operational, financial, resource planning and reporting skills.
  • Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
  • Experienced gained in the rail, automotive, military, Defence, avionics or any other safety critical environment
