About the Role:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic input to the Managing Director Momentum Energy and the Momentum Energy Leadership Team as the organisation's general counsel
  • Lead all legal, regulatory and compliance aspects of the company's operations, including commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, litigation, and risk management
  • Manage individual transactional workload of legal matters, including the provision of independent legal advice on retail business undertakings, contracts, regulatory compliance issues and other matters as required,
  • Contribute to team strategy development and management, including developing and managing strategies for the management of key governance risks. Support the development and. implementation of a Retail Governance Team strategy reflecting Momentum Energy's and Hydro Tasmania Group's strategy and objectives,
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the company complies with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including supplier contracts and service agreements
  • Manage external legal counsel and provide oversight of legal matters handled by outside firms; and act as key relationship owner for a range of stakeholders including regulators
  • Advise on employment law matters, including employee relations, terminations, and workplace investigations
  • Lead and develop a highly engaged team of legal and compliance specialists

About You and Your Experience:

  • A Law degree and a current licence to practise law in Australia
  • Demonstrated experience managing the implementation and administration of compliance frameworks,
  • Experience leading negotiations,
  • Experience contributing to regulatory change consultation processes and influencing outcomes,
  • Strong knowledge of the electricity retail regulatory environment and practices,
  • Ability to think strategically and a demonstrated commitment to valuesbased decision making,
  • Ability to work as part of a team, manage resources in order to achieve results in an environment of change,
  • Management capability including managing, scheduling and prioritising resources, and managing and motivating employees,
  • Ability to manage customer expectations and competing demands to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes,
  • Influencing and collaboration skills with demonstrated capacity to manage stakeholders at all levels,
  • Communication and conflict resolution skills and the ability negotiate mutually acceptable outcomes,
  • Significant postadmission experience as a legal practitioner, inhouse experience would be preferred
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to understand and advise on complex commercial transactions
  • Sound knowledge of Australian retail energy law, consumer law and the energy regulatory framework
  • A track record of providing practical, commerciallyfocused legal advice to senior executives and key stakeholders
