This position performs routine technical activities under the supervision of more senior staff, which support the provision of high-quality technical services to clients of Inorganic Chemistry on a day-to-day basis.

This role includes managing individual workload as directed, participating in routine maintenance of instrumentation and active involvement in quality improvement activities.

To be successful you will actively participate in the process of continuous improvement under the supervision of more experienced practitioners, to enhance the capability of the Inorganic Chemistry laboratory, fostering a 'can-do' attitude.

Technical Experience:


  • Technical knowledge and experience, or the ability to rapidly acquire skills in sample preparation and chemical analysis, with a focus on inorganic chemical testing.
  • Competent level of knowledge and skills, or ability to acquire skills, in the operation and maintenance of stateoftheart analytical instrumentation.
  • Ability to undertake routine tasks, with developing ability to undertake more complex tasks under the guidance of a more experienced health practitioner.

Communication / Team Participation:


  • Proven ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team providing support to the Inorganic Chemistry team and guidance to peers.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in the written form to peers and clients.
  • High level interpersonal skills and a desire to participate cooperatively with colleagues.

Scientific Innovation:


  • Proactive and enthusiastic approach to acquire new technical skills.

Self-Management and Work Unit Management:


  • Ability to manage time, prioritise tasks and coordinate work efficiently.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in completion of work to meet laboratory and client expectations for outstanding service.
  • Enthusiasm for participation in professional development, continuing education and training activities.
  • Collaborative participation in quality and service improvement activities for continuous service delivery to internal and external clients.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Appointment to this position requires a minimum mandatory possession of a Diploma or Advanced Diploma, tertiary, or equivalent formal qualification(s) in Science or related field (e.g. Chemistry, Laboratory Techniques or similar) from a recognised university or tertiary institution or equivalent as determined by the Chief Executive or delegate; or sufficient experience in a chemistry laboratory to demonstrate competence against the key criteria.
  • Proof of qualification is to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty.
  • In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24hour shift, oncall or weekend roster arrangements.
  • A criminal history check will be conducted on the recommended person/s for this job.
