About the Opportunity:


MCM (Melbourne City Mission) is a leading community services organisation that innovatively works alongside thousands of Victorians and their communities to overcome barriers experienced through Homelessness, Early Years, Disability, Palliative care, Early Childhood Intervention Services and Education.

The Detour program is an early intervention program aimed at diverting young people aged 12-24 years from the homelessness. The program works with young people, their families or significant adults.

This initiative aims to address potential homelessness for young people by providing intensive wrap-around coaching and case management support services.

The Youth Coach role covers the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula area and provides coaching and case management support to young people who are at risk of becoming homeless.

The role involves working alongside the young person to support them to identify their own goals and to stabilise their housing situation.


About you:


We are looking for someone who can:

  • Provide comprehensive support, coaching and case management for young people and their families, within the Detour framework.
  • Provide effective early intervention strategies for "at risk" young people and their families, in conjunction with the Detour team, partners and service providers.
  • Plan, deliver and cofacilitate group work initiatives.
  • Support, develop and facilitate community development initiatives.
  • Complete regular reporting, admin, data collection, and record keeping.

Essential:


  • Bachelor of Youth Work, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in working with and providing coaching and case management to young people and their families, particularly within the context of early intervention and youth homelessness.
  • An understanding and experience with the youth homelessness sector and/or mainstream services, including knowledge of patterns, trends and systemic issues.
  • An understanding of key issues as it relates to youth homelessness and family breakdown.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other organisations to achieve client outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver group work initiatives.
  • An understanding of the requirements for ensuring child safety.
  • Victorian Drivers Licence, and the right to work in Australia.
