SC1 Demonstrated capacity to lead an office team, including capacity for directing the work of others.

Role:

A Business Manager role will usually undertake tasks that impact on the whole school.

The role seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, finance or human resources.


Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved.

This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility.

Staff management issues will be resolved with mínimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.

Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice in matters relating to the school finance, human resources or school administration.

As a member of the school Administration Leadership team, the Business Manager will support school leadership to strategically manage resources and key services that are integral to the effective operation of the school that ultimately leads to achieving the best educational outcomes for the school community.

As a member of the Administration Leadership team, the Business Manager will anticipate future needs and provide advice to assist in forward planning, solving problems using logical methods to reach effective solutions.

The Business Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of a range of services and undertake the analysis of complex problems that form part of the policy framework.


The Business Manager will have highly developed capabilities; technical skills, people skills and self-mastery that will add value to the Administration Leadership team.

The Business Manager will be required to cultivate a mindset and approach that 'Looks for the Brilliance' in everyone with an intention to work with others to build capacity and unlock potential in each person.

Individual strengths and differences of each person are highly valued and appreciated.

The Business Manager will be required to cultivate a solutions-focus mindset and approach that is independent, proactive with high level initiative and problem solving.


The Business Manager will have highly developed people skills enabling them to; make a positive impression across the school community, foster an environment of mutual trust and respect and effectively negotiate and influence others to do the right thing.

The Business Manager will proactively address issues and concerns in all professional and community situations in an empathetic, sensitive and confidential manner.

They will have highly developed team-work skills, including quality communication skills that enable them to effectively support and report to the Leadership team, share ideas, thoughts and information, actively listen to others' ideas, thoughts and information and collaborate to achieve a collective solution that best supports the desired outcomes.


The Business Manager will have highly developed organisational and planning skills and the ability to be flexible and adapt their approach to meet and address different situations.
