About the Role:

Working closely with and under guidance and support of the Head of Teaching and Learning, the Leading Teacher (Food Studies and Hospitality) position works closely as part of the Galilee School team to develop, coordinate, lead, and implement lessons and programs associated with the Food Studies and Hospitality areas of the Australian Curriculum and the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies, and that are consistent with the Galilee School Student Support Framework.

The Senior Teacher also works to support students in their day-to-day studies and activities at the Galilee School.

This position has a particular focus and emphasis on the delivery and development of food studies classes across the school including the coordination of supply, logistics, and operations of the teaching areas supporting educational delivery in these areas.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Act as a representative for the organisation at all times by adhering to the vision, mission, and philosophy of the organisation.
Develop, coordinate, and lead the planning, preparation and delivery of quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant syllabi, curriculum, policies, work programs and educational trends.
Ensure that the Galilee School Food Studies and Hospitality programs reflect the required elements of the Australian Curriculum and the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies requirements and promote a sense of wellbeing, wonder, and empowerment.
Maintain teaching competency and currency of knowledge of relevant curriculum programs required by the school or other relevant statutory authorities.
Assist in the preparation of Individual Learning Plans [ILPS] for students in collaboration with the Head of Teaching and Learning
Assist the Head of Teaching and Learning to provide mentoring and guidance to other members of the Teaching and Learning Team
Work with the Galilee School Curriculum Coordinator to align teaching and learning program associated with Food Studies and Hospitality across all year levels at the school.
Assess students [diagnostic, formative and summative] for development, feedback and reporting purposes.
Provide for the social, cultural and emotional wellbeing and the physical safety of students whist at school and enhance their overall development towards effective citizenship and responsible adulthood through participation in timetabled, nontimetabled and planned extra curricula activities.
Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance to student's parents/carers, and other relevant stakeholders
Complete the writing of incident and accident reports as required in a timely manner
Participate as appropriate in school decision making processes and professional development
Assist in the transportation of students in support of their attendance at school as well as in support of the school's academic and social and emotional program.
Participate in both school staffing meetings, school curriculum meetings, professional focus days and Communities at Work organisational meetings as required
Other duties as directed within the scope of the role.

Selection Criteria:

Relevant qualification in Teaching/Education
Current or eligible to achieve registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute [TQI]
Substantial demonstrated experience of strategic development of Learning, Teaching and Educational program(s)
Demonstrated capacity to design, coordinate, and lead delivery of content associated with food studies and/or hospitality related curriculum areas
Confidence and experience in the design, development and implementation of units of work based on the Australian Curriculum and differentiation across a variety of learning abilities
Confidence and experience in the design, development and implementation of units of work aligned with ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies requirements (or equivalent)
Knowledge of the broader academic field including the Australian Curriculum
Ability to develop, implement and monitor case and support plans for the assessment of educational, emotional and support needs of students at the school
Ability to communicate with diverse audiences which include staff, parents and the wider community.
High level interpersonal skills and cooperative work practices
