Manager opportunity for Systems/Safety Assurance Engineer

This rapidly expanding rail network is seeking an experienced Rail Systems Engineer with safety assurance experience to be responsible for the development, execution, and ongoing management of the Safety Assurance Program.

The is a permanent role with scope for career progression and development. Our client will consider an experienced engineer who has not held a manager role previously.


Working closely with the Executive Director Safety & Risk the Safety Assurance Manager will be responsible for all audit and assurance activities for both the D&C and O&M Contractors championing a rail safety culture across the network.

Other Key Responsibilities include

  • Leading and managing the audit process, including the audit and inspection schedule.
  • Managing third party audits such as the annual electrical safety audit.
  • Management of reporting requirements as a Rail Transport Operator.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the corrective action register.
  • Assisting with the Management of Change processes.
  • Facilitating the continuous review and improvement of processes.
  • Management of the incident register and reporting, including Contractor's requirements.
  • Review and submission of safety investigation reports.
To be successful for this role you will have:

  • Relevant experience as a Rail Systems Engineer with safety assurance experience.
  • Ideally also experience with rail operations and maintenance.
  • Experience and qualifications in conducting audits and inspections.
  • Prior experience developing and implementing a safety assurance program.
  • The ability to influence the safety behaviours of people for ongoing SMS compliance and safety improvements.
  • The ability to have those difficult conversations with staff.
  • The capability to work in a close, multifaceted team environment.
  • Competent with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
