Your role


As the
Strategy Lead at the SEC, you will be responsible for conducting energy market analysis and research to drive the SEC's strategic planning and development.

You will work closely with different business units to critically analyse strategic challenges and opportunities and compellingly present insights to further advance the SEC's strategic direction.

This role can be based in either our
Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in
Morwell. This role is the equivalent of a VPS grade 6.


What you will do:


  • Provide expert advice on the SEC's strategic direction to the CEO, executive and business units, including facilitating workshops and developing actionable insights.
  • Conduct research and analysis of the energy market, including industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities to feed into strategic planning.
  • Inform the development of financial and economic models to answer strategic questions, working closely with the Energy Markets and Asset Development teams.
  • Draw compelling implications from the analysis on what matters most for the SEC's strategic direction, and compellingly distil and communicate implications to drive decision making.
  • Advise and guide key stakeholders within SEC to make informed decisions and develop strategies through detailed business cases, and/or investment opportunities.

Who you are:

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:

  • Significant experience in similar roles, which may include management consulting, or an in-house strategy function related to the energy industry (renewable, energy market, hydrogen, energy transition) or other regulated infrastructure industries.
  • Deep understanding of the Australian energy markets especially the NEM.
  • Experience with bespoke electricity market models and/or electrical power system modelling and analysis tools.
  • Experience in technical power analysis, including market and financial modelling to drive and effectively communicate specific/relevant/useful insights to inform decision making.
  • Analytic capability, specifically, ability to think logically, analyse and solve issues in methodical and timely manner.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • A track record of delivering outcomes in challenging and complex policy, regulatory and/or technical environments.
