About the role

As the Senior Chemist, you play a key role within the Quality Services Team and report to the Quality Services Superintendent. You have a proven history of building a continuous improvement culture, strong leadership skills and a passion for people development evident in the efforts made to pass on your skills, knowledge and tradecraft to other laboratory staff.

Your priorities include:

• Marinating the day-to-day operations in the chem lab, prioritizing workload to meet customers and operations needs and requirements
• Development & maintenance of nominated laboratory systems.
• Developing and sustaining safety standards within the lab environment.
• Ensuring chemists activities are in accordance with standard procedures
• Provides training and assess competency of the chemlab team & other lab staff as required
• Ensuring NATA ISO17025 accreditation is maintained

About your experience

You have a proven history of delivering work to technical completeness within set timeframes while effectively managing conflicting priorities, minimal levels of staffing and ensuring service to existing customers is unaffected by new initiatives.

Other attributes include:

• Tertiary qualification majoring in chemistry
• Experience working in a chem-lab with exposure to traditional wet chem methods & techniques
• Familiar with NATA requirements, policies and procedures
• Previous experience mentoring & training team
• Strong communication & organisation skills
• Basic Lean/Six Sigma skills (desired)

Operating two electric arc furnaces and four rod and bar rolling mills we use local materials to produce high quality steel products.
