The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and well organised Finance Officer-Accounts Payable and Receivable to join our Finance team in this ongoing position.

This Finance Officer position is responsible for the management and integrity of all Accounts Payable and Receivables for the Museum and the Foundation, and for the timely and effective response of accounts queries and the Finance Inbox.

This position will ensure that all payables are paid in line with contract terms, all receivables are managed, all associated balance sheet reconciliations are completed on time and the Finance Inbox is responded to effectively and timely.


High level overview of accountabilities:


  • Managing the endtoend processing of the Museums and Foundations accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions in a timely and accurate manner, including journal entries, and month end; incorporating data sourcing, formatting, reconciliation, and validation activities for financial data from nonfinancial management systems.
  • Raising invoices, processing payments and completing bank, balance sheet and other reconciliations ensuring all reconciled items are identified, investigated, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Advising and training Museum staff on accounts payable & receivable processes; and identifying, developing and implementing any opportunities for policies and procedures related to AP and AR.
  • Effectively managing the Finance inbox and other accounts queries by providing responses that are both timely and meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Managing debt collection in line with invoice terms and the museum's policies and procedures.
  • The timely and accurate administration of SAP Concur system, for employee expenses, and resolving any business enquiries.
  • Assisting with yearend audit including the preparation of information required; the preparation of taxation requirements (BAS, FBT, PAYG); and assisting other in the finance team on a variety of financial matters.

Selection Criteria:


  • A relevant degree or certificate qualifications.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a finance team.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) with the ability to collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
