Position Information
Swansea High School is a comprehensive, contemporary, co-educational high school nestled in the picturesque seaside suburb of Caves Beach.

With an enrolment of 730 students in 2023, including an Aboriginal student enrolment of 105 students, we are committed to building a culture of high expectations, providing a supportive and innovative learning environment, and fostering strong relationships and partnerships that enable students to realise their potential.


We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school which is student led with high expectations developed by students, for students.

The school's PBL values are Respect, Responsibility, and Ready to Learn.

Strong student voice and student leadership programs are a cornerstone for ensuring students are engaged and well connected to the school.

The school is an inclusive education setting with a Special Education Unit consisting of five classes.

This is comprised of three Multi-Categorical (MC) classes, one ED class for students with Emotional Disorders, and one BD class for students with behaviour difficulties.


We are committed to incorporating a variety of literacy and numeracy strategies across all Key Learning Areas to improve pedagogical practice and student learning outcomes.

Our teaching staff range from very experienced to early career, including 10 Head Teachers.

To support our students we have a Business Manager, 8 administrative support staff and 5 student learning support officers in addition to our Aboriginal Education Officers.

The staff at Swansea High School are dedicated, caring, innovative, focused on continual improvement and support curriculum delivery aimed at meeting the academic and social needs of all students.


The Head Teacher PDHPE at Swansea High School is also responsible for supervising the CAPA (Music and Visual Arts) staff, including their professional development and implementation of curriculum and assessment.


Specific Selection Criteria

  • Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to foster a team culture to lead a faculty with diverse experience and build positive relationships.
  • Highly developed instructional leadership skills with demonstrated capacity to foster a culture of collaboration and delivery innovation that supports student wellbeing, engagement, transition, and successful learning outcomes for students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Expert knowledge and ability to lead the PDHPE and CAPA faculties to plan, implement and review curriculum and assessment which embeds data analysis and evidence-based teaching and learning programs to improve student engagement and learning outcomes in all Stages of learning for a diverse range of students.
  • Highly developed ability to work successfully and productively with the school executive team to lead, implement and support whole school programs, priorities, and strategic directions.

General Selection Criteria

  • 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
