Two exciting opportunities exist for Wellbeing / Rehabilitation case management professionals to work within a department with a strong commitment to employee welfare and support.

You will work in a professional, dedicated and collaborative team responsible for providing in-house expertise in wellbeing and compensable/non-compensable injury/illness case management.

You will have opportunities to contribute to the development and delivery of people strategies and operational capability related to wellbeing, early intervention and injury management.

Specifically;

  • In the Assistant Director Wellbeing you will fulfil fulfils the Team Lead role for the continued development of the DCCEEW wellbeing program including the formation and delivery of engaging wellbeing strategies, action plans and initiatives. This is a new position designed to further enhance our commitment to the wellbeing of all our staff.
  • In the Assistant Director Rehabilitation Services you will lead a small team of rehabilitation specialists to provide medical case management, early intervention, and rehabilitation and workers' compensation support to the DCCEEW workforce.

Who we are

People Division, led by the Chief People Officer (CPO), provides human resources (HR) functions for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the department) with a clear focus on the department's most valued asset: its staff.

Alongside contemporary HR functions, projects and strategies, People Division is also responsible for:


  • Enhancing the department's focus on safety
  • Enterprise bargaining
  • Cultural and change management
  • The department's response to Australian Public Service (APS) reforms.


Within People Division, we are seeking passionate individuals to fill two Assistant Director roles in the People Safety and Remote People Services Branch (PSRPS Branch).

PSRPS Branch is responsible for leading the department's approach to providing a safe and respectful workplace, including health, safety and wellbeing strategies, rehabilitation case management and change management practices.

The PSRPS Branch also provides a strategic partnership offering for Parks Australia and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), working with these divisions to develop and deliver a suite of HR strategies to manage complex risks associated with these operational areas.


The Job
As an Assistant Director Wellbeing / Assistant Director Rehabilitation Services, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of people-centric wellbeing/rehabilitation services and initiatives across a diverse department with a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships with stakeholders across all levels, internal and external to the department, APS and private sectors.
  • Produce complex communication materials including briefs, strategies, policies and guidance material.
  • Manage and coach a small team through allocating and monitoring workload, setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback and creating a highperformance work environment by developing talent and rewarding achievement.
  • Identify, manage and communicate risks and opportunities to overcome challenges and drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the delivery and implementation of wellbeing/rehabilitation projects and programs of a complex nature.
  • Actively support the development, implementation and assessment of workplace wellbeing strategies.
  • Undertake rehabilitation case management for both compensable and noncompensable claims to ensure ill and injured employees achieve a safe return to work (Assistant Director Rehabilitation Services only).

What we are looking for

Knowledge and experience

Experience, knowledge and/or qualifications in rehabilitation case management, work health and safety and/or human resource management is required for these positions.


Skills and capabilities

  • Strong stakeholder management experience, including the ability to effectively communicate with senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality outcomes in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management, facilitation, engagement and coaching skills, and a collaborative approach when working with others.
  • Good judgement in problem solving, decision making and engaging with risk.
  • Excellent research and conceptual and analytical thinking skills to inform timely, evidencebased decision making aligned to strategic direction.

Desirable qualifications
Qualifications in rehabilitation, work health and safety and/or human resource management.
