WSLHD Health Promotion is seeking a Program Officer to plan and coordinate the delivery of Go4Fun and Aboriginal Go4Fun programs in Western Sydney and support the routine growth assessment of children in the District.

This full time permanent position is located in the Healthy School Years team, and may also include supporting the implementation of school based programs as needed.

We are looking for a professional with a health or related background who has:

  • A strong understanding of childhood overweight and obesity prevention and management
  • Population health project management skills
  • High level written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to conduct public presentations and facilitate groups)
  • An understanding of the social determinants of health and service delivery impacts in relation to social disadvantage, Aboriginal, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region.

What you'll be doing


The primary purpose of the position is to plan and coordinate the delivery of the NSW Ministry of Health Go4Fun and Aboriginal Go4Fun programs, in line with Western Sydney Local Health District goals and principles and agreed funding deliverables.


Additionally, the position will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the NSW Health Guideline Growth Assessment in Children and Weight Status Assessment in Adults.

The position will work within the Healthy School Years team. Further responsibilities may include supporting the implementation of school-based programs and other health promotion projects.

Essential Criteria

Qualification:
Bachelor or higher degree in any of the following - Population Health, Health Promotion, Public Health, Education, or other relevant degree


Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications at graduate level or above in: population health, health promotion, public health or other health related areas
  • Knowledge, experience or demonstrated understanding in the area of childhood overweight and obesity prevention and management
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills, problem solving skills and computer skills
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to conduct public presentations and facilitate groups, preferably with children and families)
  • Understanding of issues that impact on service delivery in relation to social disadvantage, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate and network effectively with health staff and other government agencies and nongovernment agencies and community groups and organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, motivate and support contingent workers and LHD staff to ensure all components of program delivery are adhered to.
