About the Role


You will work autonomously to carry out scheduled inspections and, where necessary to achieve the required compliance outcome, issue notices and orders, issue penalty infringement notices, instigate legal proceedings and represent Council to provide evidence in court.

Occasional after-hours work is required for inspections and investigations as and when required.


If you are a proactive, confident and resilient individual with excellent communication skills and have prior experience in environmental health and with thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, statutory authority guidelines and standards, we want to hear from you.


You can also expect to:

  • Carry out scheduled inspections of regulated premises and activities in line with Council's operational plans.
  • Issue notices and orders and penalty infringement notices instigate legal proceedings and represent Council to provide evidence in court when required to obtain the required compliance outcome.
  • Respond to customer requests regarding issues related to public health, environmental health and environmental protection to provide timely outcomes.
  • Participate in relevant Council programs such as Scores on Doors and Food Handling Workshops by undertaking monitoring or surveillance to ensure compliance with legislation and procedures.
  • Report regularly to the Coordinator Compliance on results achieved against targets to meet Council reporting requirements.
  • Liaise with consultants and review reports provided on health and environment issues to ensure consistency with applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Promote the positive and collaborative culture and values of the organisation through open, fair and transparent decision making and ethical, professional behaviour.
  • Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, statutory authority guidelines and standards.
  • A SafeWork NSW white card (general construction induction card)
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence Class C
  • Carry out inspections after normal business hours as required.

Salary Range:
From $92, $103,319.02 per annum plus 20% margin allowance plus 11.5% superannuation
