The Role

Maritime Cross-Platform Systems Program Office (MCPSPO), located in the heart of Sydney CBD, is looking for enthusiastic, motivated and agile thinkers to join our Commercial Section.

These are entry level commercial positions with training and mentoring provided to allow you to develop as a Commercial Officer within the Department of Defence.

Under broad direction you will learn both contract development and management skills in support of Navy's fleet.


Contracting and procurement is a specialised career path and these roles offer excellent training and development opportunities across all levels.

Due to the diverse nature of the contracts MCPSPO is responsible for, you will gain valuable experience across different types of commercial requirements.


As part of your duties, you will:

  • Contribute to tender evaluations, assist in negotiations, draft internal approval documents and enable contract signature on time.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of MCPSPO commercial governance and assurance information and activities.
  • Ensure all contract change proposals across all MCPSPO managed contracts are actioned on time.
  • Engage and communicate with internal stakeholders and industry suppliers to identify issues.
  • Interpret and provide advice on commercial practices, undertake research and analysis for new generation contract formations.
  • Contribute to business improvement efforts and innovation within the team and support team projects.
  • Undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews and perform procedural and commercial support work to achieve results.
  • Work cooperatively and flexibly with other teams to deliver projects and organisational initiatives.

About our Team

The MCPSPO within Maritime Systems Division, is responsible for the delivery of Cross-Class sustainment services and advice across the maritime environment.

MCPSPO sustains and manages a range of complex military systems and supplies, through an extensive network of industry partners, domestic and off-shore.

Our operating environment is complex and challenging, and requires exceptional contract and relationship management skills. MCPSPO is comprised of three functions, including Commercial, Sustainment and Engineering cells.

The teams bring together a diverse range of knowledge, skills and experience to deliver Cross-Class products and services to our Maritime customer.
