Description

The position of Cabinet Maker / Joiner is accountable to the Foreman for the accurate manufacturing of custom joinery and joinery components in accordance with issued production orders, construction documentation, allocated time frames, programme, schedule and specific requirements for quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Interpret drawings, and specifications to plan the fabrication/assembly process.
Select and safely operate appropriate hand and power tools to achieve the intended result.
Construct cabinets, shopfitting constructs, fixtures and other joinery items according to design specifications and industry standards.
Utilise various joinery techniques to create strong and durable connections.
Assemble and fit components with precision to achieve seamless joints and smooth finishes.
Pay meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements and precise joins.
Incorporate decorative elements, trims, mouldings and other embellishments as required by the design.
Prepare joinery elements and surfaces for final finishing by other trades such as coating, painting, polishing, upholstering, claddings, metal and stone finishing, etc.
Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and design specifications.
Address any defects or imperfections through corrective measures.
Collaborate with other team members to discuss project requirements and progress.
Communicate effectively to provide updates, seek clarification, and share insights related to the project.
Adhere to safety protocols and best practices when operating machinery and tools.
Maintain and clean equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Troubleshoot issues that may arise during construction, such as fitting challenges or material limitations.

Qualifications and Skills:

Relevant vocational education and training in cabinet making, woodworking and joinery.
Proficiency in using woodworking tools, machinery, and equipment.
Strong knowledge of various joinery techniques and woodworking materials.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, design and technical drawings, and specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements, cuts and joins.
Creativity and craftsmanship to bring designs to life and address design challenges.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Time management skills to meet project deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
Physical dexterity and stamina to perform tasks for extended periods.
Commitment to safety and knowledge of safety protocols in a workshop environment.

Essential Criteria:

Relevant industry experience.
Ability to interpret architectural plans and internal shop drawings.
Capable of working with limited supervision and able to exercise initiative and judgement.
Ability to work within a team environment.
Sound knowledge of the use of hand tools, plant and equipment associated with manufacturing custom joinery and joinery components.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to work within specified time frames as scheduled, meeting all deadlines.
The ability to be resourceful and financially responsible with materials.
Eye for detail, accuracy and precision.
Be proactive and timely with communication between all stakeholders.
