The Legal Support Officer role offers an outstanding career opportunity for a professional who is passionate about using their administrative skills and expertise to support VIT in its regulation of Victorian teachers.
With the opportunity to regularly engage with external stakeholders, assist VIT lawyers and investigators and provide support to VIT's Professional Conduct Committee, the role will ensure the effective and timely progression of VIT's regulatory activities.
About the role
Salary range:
$81,134 - $87,293 per annum (plus statutory superannuation)

This role will require you to:
- Communicate effectively with external stakeholders such as members of the public, complainants, school principals, manager of early childhood services, Victoria Police, the Commission for Children and Young People, Working with Children Check Victoria and other teacher regulatory authorities.
- Communicate clearly, effectively and sensitively with applicants and registered teachers about VIT legislation, policies, procedures and decision that may impact on the status of their registration.
- Perform a wide range of administrative tasks associated with accurate file and record management including photocopying, data entry, compiling of hearing books and assembling briefs to counsel.
- Provide paralegal assistance including drafting legal correspondence and documentation, compiling hearing books, assembling briefs to counsel, and coordinating responses to subpoenas and other requests for information, and supporting lawyers to manage disciplinary proceedings and litigation.
- Provide secretariat support for VIT's Professional Conduct Committee including preparing meeting agendas, data and statistical reporting, summarising CEO reports, collating and uploading briefing papers to VIT's online file management system and taking meeting minutes as required.
- Be accountable for assessing and managing risk, including by identifying the need to escalate matters as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely records of all complaints, notifications, correspondence and action taken using VIT business systems.
About you
As an experienced legal support officer, you will have extensive experience providing administrative support to others, preferably within a regulatory or legal environment.
You will also have:
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Highlevel planning and prioritisation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Very sound interpersonal skills
- Ability to identify and assess risk, and escalate matters where appropriate.
