Trainee Broker - Energy and Commodities

The Opportunity

The role will focus on Electricity as part of a small cohesive team, which forms part of a larger and very successful energy team.

What to expect


In the first three months, you'll develop an understanding of the requirements of the role and begin to support our senior brokers.

You'll be creating reports, using our company systems and providing updates from those systems to the senior brokers. You'll be booking trades and sending confirmations.


Within six months, you'll be assisting with inbound queries from existing clients, the onboarding of new clients along with attending client visits.

You will learn how to work prices in different contracts, the market lingo and ability to close deals between buyers and sellers.

You'll be researching prospective customers, understanding clients' portfolios and their hedging needs, plus making daily calls to customers, analysing data and supporting the desk.

Beyond six month, who knows, with attention and enthusiasm, the sky is the limit.

So who are we looking for?

You'll have excellent communication skills, and proven ability to build rapport and develop relationships. You'll have superb attention to detail and be able to manage multiple tasks within strict timeframes. You'll be adept at working with and contributing to a team and a have a willingness to learn.


You will have a strong motivation to achieve, and take pride in achieving goals and desire success but not at the expense of your team's success and you'll always act with integrity and ethics.

A degree, or working towards a degree in economics, finance or an environmental field is welcome but not essential.
