Study Coordinator - Prostate Cancer Studies

  • Part time (0.8FTE), Fixed term (12 months) position
  • Based in Hobart at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research
  • Develop and implement optimal lines of project communication between investigators, partners, and other stakeholders.

The Opportunity


The Study Coordinator will support two prostate cancer studies, Biomarkers to Improve Outcomes in Prostate Cancer (BIOPC) and Precision Care for Men with Prostate Cancer in Tasmania (PC4PC-TAS), in the Genetics and Cancer Theme.

These studies involve recruitment of Tasmanian men diagnosed with prostate cancer with the aims of identifying genomic biomarkers associated with treatment outcomes (BIOPC) and assessing the potential and feasibility of precision care in Tasmania through a consumer-engaged approach (PC4PC-TAS).

The Study Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day coordination and implementation of the two studies.

This will include but is not limited to:

liaising with the Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry - Tasmania (PCOR-TAS) to co-ordinate recruitment; entry of participant information into the database, REDCap; working with a research nurse/phlebotomist to organise state-wide sample collection clinics; liaising with pathology centres to organise tumour tissue collections; and coordinating clinical data extracts with PCOR-TAS.

For PC4PC-TAS, this will also include, but is not limited to, assisting the CI team with managing and piloting a 2-round Delphi survey.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Under the broad direction of the Chief Investigators, oversee the daytoday coordination and implementation of statewide recruitment and sample collection for the two studies. This will include data entry of participant contact information, scheduling blood collection clinics, organising participant appointments, sending out saliva kits to remote participants, and organising tumour collection at the two state pathology laboratories.
  • Manage the studies' data including timely and accurate coding and entry into relevant databases. These data will include basic participant contact information, clinic and sample collection information, tumour pathology information, and survey responses.
  • Coordinate clinical data extractions for study participants with the Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry
  • Tasmania Project Manager.
  • Assist with the conduct of the PC4PC-TAS study, including supporting and coordinating implementation of an expert survey.
  • Undertake facetoface recruitment including the collection of blood samples for other genetic studies within the Genetics and Cancer Theme in accordance with standard protocol.

Your Application

  • A degree level qualification in a relevant area or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Proven skills and experience in coordinating research studies, including recruitment of participants for research studies, liaison with study participants and investigators, data management, quality control and knowledge of research surveys.
  • Excellent organisational skills, the ability to independently manage competing priorities and the use of initiative and problemsolving skills in the daytoday coordination of the projects and the achievement of milestones and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with a range of people, including the elderly, and organisations.
  • Accurate and thorough record keeping skills appropriate to carrying out a scientific investigation.

Remuneration


Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $107,061 pro-rata comprising base salary within the range of $84,386 to $91,505 plus 17% superannuation.
