Are you a forward thinking Account and General Manager? Our client is currently seeking a versatile, out of the box thinker to lead a Traffic Management team in the northern districts of Sydney.


Reporting to the State Manager, the work of a Business Unit General Manager requires interactions with a wide range of people both internally and external to their business.

Customers, tiers of local and state government, unions, and middle managers in major national clients.

This in turn requires the General Manager to acquire an subset group perspective rather than just focus on their business unit goals.

The GMs collectively must promote inter-group cooperation on, industry issues and strengthen the groups access to intel.

  • Salary $150k plus vehicle plus super
  • Northern Sydney district
  • Large national company employing up to 12,000 staff by 2024

Required Skill/Qualifications:

  • Tertiary degree, or a minimum 5 years experience n a similar position
  • Strong acumen for PnL and Financial reporting
  • Ability to lead large teams
  • Fleet management experienced is an advantage
  • Prior experience dealing with Council and Mains Road desired but not essential
  • WHS/Safety certificate or qualification desired
  • Strong ability to manage finances, payroll expenses etc
The General Manager will be responsible for the following areas and be able to demonstrate their skills during an interview:

  • Financial reporting and review

Safety:


  • Acquire knowledge and keep up to date on relevant health and safety matters.
  • Understand the operations and the associated hazards and risks.
  • Ensure there are sufficient resources and processes to eliminate or minimise risks.
  • Ensure processes for timely information and response to incidents, hazards and risks.
  • Ensure processes are implemented to comply with specific duties and obligations under the Act and international standards certification
  • Verify the provision and use of resources and processes aimed at the elimination or minimisation of hazards and risks.

People

  • Induction of new staff
  • Succession planning
  • Designing all roles and promotions with the state manager
  • Ensure probation period reviews are completed.
  • Review the quality of performance management discussions and documentations.
  • Represent the company in all Fair Work Commission conciliation's.
  • Oversee return to work processes.
  • Be fully conversant in the terms and conditions applicable for Traffic Controllers under the award and or Enterprise agreement
  • Depot visits designed to communicate business progress and financial results.
  • Regular communication to all staff
  • Reward and recognition processes
  • Overseeing training and development of staff

Operations

  • Key legislative requirements impacting the operations.
  • Rostering systems and processes.
  • The plans and permits processes.
  • Depot operations and inventory management.
  • Fleet management and maintenance.
  • Capital expenditure proposals.
  • Facilities management.
  • Management of consumables.

Commercial Growth:


  • Create a business development plan underpinning an aggressive budget.
  • Document current and potential opportunities into the Customer database
  • Retain and grow the existing customers.
  • Close new business
  • Work closely with other interval businesses in the state to grow collaboratively to heighten regional competition and discourage others.

Financial

  • Develop an annual revenue and profit budget based off a business growth plan.
  • Actively manage the units cash flow ensuring invoices are correct and payment terms are adhered to by customers.
  • Manage expenditure by the business unit finding ways to reduce expenditure below budget.
  • Manage payroll expenditure by ensuring accuracy of payroll information being drawn from the internal system and correct payments.
  • Have a capital expenditure plan driven by the budgeted growth plan
