Selection Criteria:


  • Strong interpersonal skills which demonstrates your ability to create positive relationships with families and involve these families in activities and decisions.
  • Experience working on place based, people centric community development projects that support the community and builds their capacity and sill level.
  • Knowledge/experience of working with families from diverse backgrounds especially culturally and linguistically diverse families, recently arrived and refugee families.
  • Strong networking skills and experience developing partnerships with other agencies to work together on a shared goal.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, inlcuding well-developed planning, time managment and orgainisational skills.
  • Well-developed oral communication skills, as well as sound written and report writing skills.

Role:

Create a welcoming environment, which encourages parents and their children to engage and become active in the hub

Build relationships with parents and the local community and discover their strengths, aspirations and needs


Informed by your consultations, plan activities, programs and services in partnership with local service providers in the early years, family support, education and settlement context, which align with the program outcomes framework.


Support families to increase their knowledge of child development, parenting, and settlement support by providing information sessions/programs at the hub.

These should include skill development and capacity building activities

Build strong relationships within the school and support the school to be able to develop family's participation in early years and school readiness programs as well as the schools ability to support and respond to family needs

Advocate to local services on family needs and work in partnership with these organisations to make referrals or tailor programs that are delivered out of the school


Participate in monthly hub leader meetings and professional development opportunities in your local government area as well Community Hubs Australia.

Complete regular reports and share lessons and case studies with your support agency/Community Hubs Australia

Promote Community Hub activities to the school, community and services.

Participate and support evaluations of the program.

Tertiary qualification in either community development, education, or early childhood preferable.


Responsibilities:

The importance of home/school partnerships is an integral part of the school.

This is achieved through the participation of parents through a number of forums, which primarily include School Council, classroom assistance, fundraising, parent information sessions and whole school events.

The establishment of the Community Hub has strengthened these partnerships and established stronger links with the broader school community.

Who May Apply:

The following knowledge and skills are required to be utilised:

  • Knowledge and experience of Community development and participation principles and techniques.
  • Understanding of early years and community service networks.
  • Understanding of the needs and backgrounds of families, especially Culturally and Linguistically Diverse(CALD), isolated and disadvantaged community members.
  • Proficient computer skills including the ability to effectively use MS Office.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills.
