About The Opportunity

Fairfield Hospital is recruiting for a Medical Records Manger (Grade 1) to complement and enhance the current Clinical Information Department as a Clinical Coding and Casemix Manager.

The staff of the CID are committed to providing the most efficient and effective Clinical Information Service.

Our aim is to provide timely and accurate patient demographic, clinical and statistical information to facilitate an optimal level of direct and indirect patient care whilst ensuring that the patients right to confidentiality remains protected.

CID is located on level 1 of the main hospital building opposite pathology.


CID provides a range of services to both internal and external customers; these services include record control and storage, confidentiality and medico-legal services, Patient Administration System (PAS) management and training, coding records, provision of records and data for research and design of forms.

What you'll be doing
To provide leadership and management of Clinical Coders.
To ensure APDC and coded data is submitted according to relevant NSW Ministry of Health timeframes.
To lead coding and casemix initiatives that ensures Fairfield Hospital coded data:

  • accurately reflects patient care within the appropriate guidelines
- is analysed and accessible to clinical units and management for analysis and
- is supported by accurate and relevant clinical documentation

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management/Medical Record Administration (or equivalent as deemed by the organisation).
  • Demonstrated high level clinical coding knowledge and experience using ICD10AM, the Australian Coding Standards and the 3M Encoder.
  • Demonstrated high level knowledge and experience in casemix, development of data/information reports and quality improvement activities.
  • High level computer skills with knowledge and experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in complying with the NSW Health Privacy Manual, with a thorough understanding of confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise a high volume workload and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to determine integrity of data and problem solve.
