About our opportunity


The Strategic Planning and Place Making Department takes a strategic approach to long term planning and policy development to shape the growth, urban form, accessibility, and livability of our region whilst managing natural hazards and protecting and conserving our natural resources, environment, and heritage.

The department's plans, programs and initiatives are structured to meet the requirements of the Southeast Queensland Regional Plan and related State legislation, in addition to supporting local demands and needs.


As a Principal Master Planner - Growth Area, will provide specialist master planning expertise in the delivery of strategic planning and place making services, and lead the implementation of structure planning and design processes for identified growth areas to meet the needs of the community within the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.


Additionally, you will also:
- lead complex and high-profile projects and specialist teams, including external consultants
- develop and implement key policy around the master planning of growth areas, the planning scheme, infrastructure planning, significant major projects and key placemaking activities
- facilitate project-based community consultation including representing Council at a range of customer meetings, community, and business forums
- act as a Council delegate on a variety of projects, providing a source of professional advice to key stakeholders


About you


You will have knowledge and experience in structure planning, master planning and urban design for greenfield expansion areas to support integrated land use and infrastructure planning outcomes, and delivery of holistic community outcomes.

Hold a Degree in Urban and Regional planning or equivalent qualification and have extensive knowledge of strategic land use planning process, including the planning Act 2016, SEQ Regional Plan, and Council local laws and policies.


You will also have:
- substantial experience in project management and associated risk management practices
- substantial experience in the delivery of complex strategic land use planning projects, including leading and mentoring project-based teams
- demonstrated experience providing technical oversight and direction to team members
- ability to lead projects and teams in response to changes in direction in uncertain or emergent circumstances and in a rapidly changing policy environment
- excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate complex planning concepts and matters in a simple and concise manner
