The Role

Joint Proof & Experimental Unit (JPEU) is an integral part of Explosive Ordnance Branch, Joint Logistics Command and is tasked to provide dynamic, static and environmental test and evaluation services to the Australian Defence Organisation.

JPEU consists of a Headquarters at Port Wakefield SA, and two Ranges, Proof and Experimental Establishment (P&EE) Graytown VIC, and P&EE Port Wakefield SA.


The successful applicants will have experience in the use of small and medium calibre weapons, hand held munitions and pyrotechnics.

Employment at Graytown attracts a Special Defence Locality Allowance of approximately $ or $152.00 per fortnight respectively.


About our Team


The P&EE Graytown teams carryout Test and Evaluation activities for a diverse range of various calibre munitions and other explosive ordnance.

They capture performance data of the munitions and provide that information on behalf of Defence.


The Range Services Team is critical in this process as they provide the necessary resources for the conduct of test and evaluation across numerous activities by static weapon mounted munitions, mobile weapon platforms evaluation and ballistic protections trials.

The broader team utilise systems such as ballistic tracking radar, high speed video cameras and associated equipment to track the rounds or event when the explosive ordnance is dynamically fired or statically tested the munitions.


  • Work in a live fire open range and enclosed indoor range environment.
  • Support the team in the construction of test and evaluation sites.
  • Conduct range clearance and safety checks in preparation for live fire activities.
  • Participate in the manning of bushfire response and emergency response teams.
  • Have good written communication skills and be able to interpret and comply with written instructions.
  • Work within a Quality Management System and able to comply with Work Health Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Be able work under supervision or independently to ensure 'Best Outcomes for Defence' are provided as required.
  • Be proactive and keen to continuously improve systems and processes.
