Description

Swinburne's Domestic Student Recruitment team is looking for scientists, teachers or post-graduates with a background in Physics or Chemistry to deliver lab sessions and tours of the ANSTO's National Centre for Synchrotron Science.


You will be trained to deliver specialised hands-on ANSTO Lab Sessions for Secondary School students, predominantly Year 11 and 12 VCE students, that allows them to comprehensively explore concepts such as the interaction of light and energy, nuclear physics, and radioactivity.


The sessions are complimented by a tour of the Synchrotron to deepen the students understanding of how research using synchrotron and nuclear techniques delivers a wide range of benefits.

You will also be required to run tours one Saturday each month for the general public and be available for special community events throughout the year.

The position is a Sessional Academic appointment, with work based on school booking demand throughout the year.

Up to three shifts per week will be available in the periods of high demand from May to September (Terms 2 & 3) each year.


About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated background in VCE Physics and/or VCE Chemistry.
  • Experience in using and maintaining specialised laboratory equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with a diversity of individuals from both within and outside the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and, to work productively and cooperatively with others in a team environment.

Qualifications

Completion of a science or engineering degree with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
