About the role

In this role you will play a key role in the Sustainable Waste Services team, engaging with the community on recycling matters, developing and implementing education and advertising campaigns and performing analysis and reporting on recycling trends within the community.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement campaigns that will support Council's policy objectives for sustainable waste management and circular economy programs and the capacity of Waste Management Services.
  • Respond to and maintain a register of community waste queries to promote a good understanding of positive waste habits in the region.
  • Identify, communicate and promote information to the community that will improve the sustainability of waste management services.
  • Review the effectiveness of campaigns to positively impact on resident and customer behaviour and take appropriate action in the design, implementation and/or modification of future campaigns.
  • Work with stakeholders to support the successful implementation of the kerbside inspection program and other waste initiatives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced communications profession, with exposure to the development of training/education programs.

You will be confident engaging with a diverse range of people, have an outgoing personality and be results/solutions focused.

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting and resourcing of community engagement and capacity building activities.
  • Experience in contributing to policy development and campaign design and development.
  • Problemsolving skills and demonstrated capacity to adapt strategies and activities appropriately.
  • Experience in the use of digital marketing platforms
  • Knowledge and understanding of current 'best practice' in collection and disposal of waste and resource management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Education, Social Sciences, Community development or related fields and/or suitable relevant experience in communications or community education programs.
