What you'll be doing
Primary Purpose of The Kids Neuroscience Centre
Since its inception, research undertaken at the Kids Neuroscience Centre has positively impacted more than 4000 families with rare neurological and
neuromuscular conditions.

The Centre operates a research-based diagnostic service providing these families with precise genetic diagnoses, expert clinical care and disease-specific treatments and therapies as well as clinical trials.

The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Discipline of Child and Adolescent Health, The Children's Hospital at Westmead Clinical School of the University of Sydney.


The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.

The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.

The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.


  • A relevant doctoral or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with at least three years fulltime equivalent research experience.
  • Capacity to conduct research activities with mínimal supervision, with identifiable research output.
  • High level of selfmotivation and demonstrated research potential evidenced by authorship of peerreviewed research publication(s) arising from PhD research.
  • Ability to present research data at local institution and/or national level.
  • Ability to demonstrate an emerging local profile within area of intellectual and/or technical expertise.
  • Ability to contribute to the training and guidance of junior research staff.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, recordkeeping skills and ability to meet deadlines.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
