About the role

In a team environment, the Physical Surveillance Operations Tactical Analyst is responsible for supporting covert collection teams, compilation of surveillance products, will interrogate covert collection tools supporting evidence/intelligence gathering and enhance operational safety through pre and post deployment analysis to inform operational ACIC undertakings.

The successful applicant will need to be flexible, innovative, self-motivated, committed and able to work in a high-tempo environment. Awareness, or ability to garner understanding, of contemporary physical surveillance methodology is desirable. Ability to work within a small team of committed professionals is essential.

The Physical Surveillance Operations Tactical Analyst role within the ACIC is to develop and support covert collection by:

  • Support ACIC physical surveillance operational deployments by providing high quality tactical and operational reporting, analysis and monitoring functions;
  • Process analytical results and presentation of data into formats suitable for operational interpretation;
  • Monitor multiple intelligence and tactical systems simultaneously, critically analyse live or complex information streams, and provide reliable advice and intelligence for operational outcomes;
  • Enhance risk assessment and risk management activities through the interrogation of available intelligence;
  • Engage with stakeholders to support as required.


As a national resource, the APS5 Physical Surveillance Tactical Analyst works closely with the Physical Surveillance operational teams and will undertake specific training, to support those outputs for surveillance teams nationally.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Has experience in operational intelligence environments or capacity to successfully undertake training supporting knowledge of intelligence processes, methodologies and techniques. An understanding of covert collection techniques, activities or operational coordination within the law enforcement or intelligence community is highly desirable;
  • Can contribute to complex intelligence projects together with the ability to form sound judgments based on strategic thinking, highlevel problem solving, researching and analysing information / data;
  • Is able to analyse and handle sensitive information, including the ability to produce operational reporting;
  • Demonstrates awareness or capacity to use operational communications tools;
  • Has a high level of verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and liaison skills;
  • Will have an ability to maintain effective relationships through consultation and sharing of information.

Essential qualifications

  • Be the holder of a current Australian drivers' licence.

Training

  • Have the ability to successfully complete the training for ACIC covert systems access.

  • The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
