Established in 1923, Karitane is a dynamic and innovative not for profit health organisation and registered charity providing early parenting services.

We support families with children from birth to 5 years of age through building parenting capacity, enhancing parent child relationships and strengthening a family's connections with supports in their community.

Our services are evidence based and delivered by a caring and highly trained professional team of child and family health nurses, paediatricians, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists offering complete, holistic care.


POSITION TITLE:
Paediatrician - VMO (multiple positions)

DEPARTMENT:
Karitane Residential Units and Virtual Parenting Centre


OPERATIONAL BASE:
Campbelltown


HOURS:
up to 6 hours per week

STATUS:
This appointment is for the new quinquennium which ceases 30 June 2027.

VACCINATION CATEGORY:
A (including full COVID doses and influenza Vaccinations)


RESPONSIBLE TO:
Director, Clinical Services


PURPOSE
To provide clinical management and treatment of clients at Karitane inpatient Residential Unit and under your care.

This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee and approved by the Karitane Board.

Karitane is an Affiliated Health Organisation governed by a Board of Directors and is supported by the NSW Ministry of Health through Sydney South West Local Health District.

This position is sought to provide generalist services to families presenting to our facilities.


KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)and/or current specialist qualifications as recognised by the Health Insurance Commission)
  • Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, client safety and risk management
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education / continuing professional development
  • Experience in the clinical assessment and management of early childhood health issues
  • Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established, if requested and credentialed
  • Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team
  • Understanding of the principles of early intervention, prevention and health promotion
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, the community, other staff and other practitioners
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an Area level, if credentialed
  • Current NSW driver's licence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide clinical and consultant paediatric services to the clients in the Camden Residential Unit on a rostered basis and for the Carramar Facility as may be required from time to time (Leave relief)
  • All cases seen by the VMO will be the ongoing responsibility/case managed by a member of the Karitane staff.
  • This position involves clinical, teaching and research/service evaluation responsibilities.
