The Opportunity

  • Coordinate projects to support access to childcare for families who are seeking asylum
  • Work directly with families to help find and negotiate child care options
  • Research and report on project data, deliverables and key outcomes
  • Join our dedicated Community Engagement team of staff and volunteers, contributing to a more welcoming Australia.
This is a full-time, 2-year (24 months) contract with the possibility of extension.


What will your role look like?

  • Working closely with the Community Engagement Manager, this is a handson, multifaceted position that requires coordination of childcare projects whilst delivering direct support to families
  • You will help to develop the strategic direction of ASC child care projects in collaboration with the Community Engagement and Employment teams
  • You'll provide daily support to families, help them to access child care, negotiate with services and find creative solutions to resolve barriers.
  • You'll work with families to develop pathway plans, identifying needs and connecting them to other services, so that families are able to continue child care beyond the funded period
  • Collaborating with ASC teams and external stakeholders, you will scope, plan and advocate for appropriate child care options for people seeking asylum
  • Working with the Community Engagement Manager, you will collect and analyse data from the pilot project, and prepare reports to show the relationship between child care and workforce participation.

Selection criteria -

Essential

  • Knowledge of the NSW child care landscape and/or Australian early education policy
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Ability to listen to, engage with, support, and learn from people with complex needs
  • Strong experience negotiating with and gaining support from external stakeholders; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management experience, able to set targets and meet deliverables
  • Highlevel confidence in using systems and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyse information and coordinate multiple types of data into reports
  • Good organisational, record keeping and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively to solve problems as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt effectively to change.

Desirable

  • Experience in early childhood education, including ability to coordinate a caseload
  • Experience working with people seeking asylum, refugees and/or settlement services
  • NSW Driver Licence
  • Lived experience as a refugee or person seeking asylum
