Description

The purpose of the Planning Manager role is to lead the PTP team in efficiently delivering a program of high-quality strategic investigations and complex planning projects.

Specifically, the role of Planning Manager will be responsible for managing team members, helping to develop the pipeline of projects and leading the efficient delivery of modal and integrated multi-modal transport studies.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Project leadership and direction across multiple projects or areas of work (involving transport strategy and planning branch and other departmental staff) to effectively coordinate and deliver various project activities on time and within budget.
  • Leading and managing the operation, welfare and technical development of the team, including active participation in performance conversations to build and support a culture of high performance, safety and wellbeing.
  • Contributing to the delivery of a positive and productive working environment, including actively contributing to the management of the branch and participating in ongoing business improvement initiative and management processes
  • Managing issues and public information about passenger transport planning projects, including the provision of highlevel strategic advice, reports and general correspondence to the Director, Executive Director, General Manager, Deputy Director-General, Director-General and the Minister.
  • Providing guidance and advice to colleagues across the Department in passenger transport study methodologies and techniques.
  • Fostering effective working relationships with key stakeholders (consult and negotiate with internal and external agencies), and represent the department at meetings, forums and relevant working groups on strategic transport planning issues.

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

Mandatory qualifications and conditions

  • A criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
  • The successful applicant for this role will possess tertiary qualifications (bachelor or higher), or equivalent experience, in transport or land use planning. Requirements of the role
  • Applicants will be expected to be able to demonstrate:
  • personal accountability, governance and judgement within a public sector and strategic planning context.
- strategic vision and appreciation of broader purpose of the transport system.
- a high level of transport planning expertise and knowledge, with experience in public transport planning and/or strategy development.
- strong project and/or program management skills and experience.

  • The ability to build and sustain relationships that enable the collaborative delivery of customerfocused outcomes.
- the ability to work constructively within a diverse, social, open-minded and connected team.
