  • Based at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the North East of Melbourne and state-wide.

We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our purpose, which is to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.

About the VSCS and SCIS:

The Victorian Spinal Cord Service (VSCS) is a specialised state-wide service that provides lifelong care to people who sustain a traumatic spinal cord injury in Victoria, Tasmania and southern New South Wales.

Inpatient services are provided at the Austin and Royal Talbot campuses of Austin Health. The VSCS also provides community and outpatient programs.

The Spinal Community Integration Service (SCIS) is based at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, and sits within the VSCS to provide community-based intervention to spinal cord injured clients from both Austin and Alfred Health.

Community based intervention may include working with the client in their own home, with a community service provider, in their local community, at their workplace or in a recreation facility with the aim of empowering clients and reintegrating them back into community after a period of inpatient rehabilitation.

About the role:

The Spinal Community Integration Service (SCIS) Exercise Physiologist will work within an interdisciplinary team, to support clients with a new spinal cord injury.

This may include assessment and planning with the client and team, to identify relevant community integration goals, and provide community based exercise physiology intervention and support to both the client, and their local health care providers.

You will also be a Liaison worker for clients recently discharged from inpatient rehabilitation. This will involve being a key contact and support person for the clients community reintegration journey.
