Position Purpose Statement


We are seeking an experienced senior leader to bring their strategic thinking and leadership skills to determine opportunities to improve the performance of the railway.

As the General Manager, Network Operations, you will work collaboratively with all Operations, Maintenance and Projects areas of the business and will lead and drive the continuous improvement focus for the Annual Performance Improvement Plan (APIP).

This role will push the business to implement performance opportunities rapidly and safely by making every second count in the delivery of passenger services.


Additionally, this role will partner with each of the General Managers in the Passenger Delivery, Network Integration and Project teams to own and drive effective outcomes.

About the Role

As the General Manager, Network Operations you will:
Develop and implement both short term and long-term strategies to improve the network performance of the operating railway
Assist the Network Integration Division in the drafting of the Strategic Network Plan (SNP), in addition to ensuring Passenger Delivery programs are delivered within documented timeframes
Define and measure all levels of operating performance, including the reliable and punctual delivery of train services, and recommend opportunities to improve these metrics
As part of a cultural focus on improving operating performance, provide a constant disciplined approach and drive to network performance on a daily basis, and leading an ethos of "every second counts" to the railway
Deliver an updated Annual Performance Improvement Plan (APIP) report each month noting the programs that are delivering improvements, accurately measuring these, while recommending new programs based on data that will improve the performance of the railway
Build and lead a high performing leadership team who maintain efforts to continuously improve the performance of the railway

Qualification, Skills, and Experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in a Business, Project, Engineering or similar
Formal training and certification in program or project management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, MSP, Agile/Scrum) - desirable
Formal training and certification in Change Management (e.g., PROSCI) - desirable
Significant senior leadership and business transformation experience in railway operations, projects, maintenance, strategy, business planning or similar
The ability to communicate effectively, influence others, gain cooperation and be highly articulate and engaging when communicating information to staff and stakeholders
