Our team offers strategic advice that guides decision making and helps our Group achieve its business outcomes.


About The Role:

We have a fixed term opportunity for 12 Months for a Workers Compensation In-House Lawyer to join our team.

You will drive strategic direction of litigated claims including improved outcomes on common law claims to reduce workers compensation liabilities, manage reputational risk and minimise the impact of workplace injury to Coles through:


  • Maintaining strong professional knowledge of workers compensation compliance and common law/lump sum settlement trends in relevant States
  • Driving and managing litigation cases, reporting progress and outcomes to internal stakeholders
  • Manage relationships within the legal panel to achieve targeted outcomes
  • Facilitating business understanding of lessons learnt from each case
  • Building the capability of the claims team to identify claims with legal potential early and manage effectively

About you and your skills:

We are looking for a professional with proven experience in workers compensation management environment and relevant legislative frameworks.

You have a strong understanding of complex litigated and injury claim investigations and management and advanced knowledge of workers compensation legislation and emerging industry trends.


You will also need:

  • Degree in Law essential as is a current Legal Practising Certificate.
  • Extensive experience in workers compensation law or personal injuries law
  • Understanding of key regulatory and statutory insurance obligations
  • Experience in risk management
  • Strong liaison, negotiation and interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with all internal and external stakeholders
