Exciting opportunity to contribute to improving the cultural safety and access in Emergency Departments for First Nations patients
- This role will be based at RMH and will be supported by the West Metro Health Service Partnership (WMHSP) team. The WMHSP is made up of six health services (Royal Melbourne Hospital, Western Health, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women's Hospital, the Royal Children's Hospital, and Mercy Hospitals) and the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network.
Your new role:
***- The Aboriginal Health Improvement Project Officer will play a key role in the planning and delivery of the Aboriginal Health Improvement Initiative.
- The initiative will aim to improve the cultural safety and access in Emergency Departments for First Nations adult and paediatric patients. This project will be delivered across both Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) and Royal Children's Hospital (RCH).
- The Project Officer will be responsible for collaborating with various stakeholders to understand the key issues and to design and implement strategies to improve the identification of First Nations patients and families in the ED and reduced the variation in care in ED for First Nations patients. The role involves working closely with patients and families, First Nations community members, health professionals and other key stakeholders across the RMH and RCH. This role will be supported by the First Nations Unit at RMH, the Wadja Aboriginal Family Place at RCH and the West Metro Health Service Partnership central team.
About you:
- Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Have a sound knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, society, and kinship networks
- An understanding of state and local Aboriginal health issues and initiatives
- A high level of organisational and administrative skills and an ability to work effectively with others
- An ability to help develop and implement initiatives that could improve the cultural sensitivity and accessibility of services
