Position Information


Muswellbrook High School, located in the Upper Hunter Valley, is built on the land of the Wanaruah and Kamilaroi people.

With a population of 850 students, approximately 20% of whom identify as Indigenous, our highly qualified and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff work together to create an environment that truly embodies our school motto, 'Striving for Excellence in a School that Cares'.

We enjoy a proud history of educating families from the Upper Hunter, drawing students from the Muswellbrook, Denman, Sandy Hollow and Martindale communities.

Specific Selection Criteria

  • Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, develop and lead staff at all stages of their career through professional learning and evidenceinformed, reflective teaching practices to promote high quality teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and implementation of high quality syllabusbased curriculums, that are engaging and differentiated to improve achievement for all students.
  • Demonstrated experience to efficiently lead and manage school systems and processes, to ensure adherence to policy requirements and continuous school improvement while dealing with day to day situations.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement wholeschool processes and initiatives that support the school's strategic directions and improve learning and engagement for all students.

General Selection Criteria

  • 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
