ABOUT THE COMMERCIAL INVESTMENTS DIVISION


The Commercial Investment Division (CID) presents an exciting opportunity to be part of the team at the forefront of shaping policy, commercial and financial advice to the Australian Government on complex transactions, investments, and programs.


CID is separated into four branches:


  • Commercial Policy and Advice: responsible for developing and managing the Commercial Investment Framework, including representing and advising the Commonwealth in major commercial transactions and providing support on alternative financing arrangements

Communications and Energy Investments: providing shareholder oversight and advice on Australia Post, Marinus Link, NBN Co and Snowy Hydro Limited

Defence Investments: providing shareholder oversight of Australian Naval Infrastructure, ASC and Defence Housing Australia

Transport Investments and Governance: providing shareholder oversight to Australian Rail Track Corporation, National Intermodal Corporation and Western Sydney Airport Company, as well as managing the broader governance arrangements of all GBEs.

ABOUT THE

OPPORTUNITIES

Our priorities in will include:
- advising the Minister for Finance, the Cabinet and other Government agencies on significant commercial and policy issues, such as the financing and delivery of major infrastructure programs across the transport, energy, communications and defence sectors
- providing oversight of the Commonwealth's shareholdings in Government Business Enterprises (GBEs), including enhancements to the governance frameworks
- supporting the accountability and effectiveness of the Government's Specialist Investment Vehicles (SIVs), such as the National Reconstruction Fund and Clean Energy Finance Corporation, by establishing a central oversight and governance function
- delivering complex commercial negotiations and advice, including merger and acquisition transactions, funding and financing arrangements, major procurements and asset sales to achieve the Government's strategic objectives
- developing governance policy and advice, including representing Australia's interests in State-Owned Enterprises in international fora and in Free Trade Agreement negotiations

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR


We are seeking motivated people at the Executive Level 1 and Executive Level 2 level with a mix of public policy, commercial, financial, legal and program management skills and expertise.

- effective leadership skills and a commitment to constructively manage diverse teams to achieve high-quality shared outcomes
- the ability to collaborate and lead the development of influential strategic policy and commercial advice to the Government
- excellent communication skills, with a capacity to test and refine policy and commercial implications with stakeholders and influence outcomes
- sound analytical capabilities and judgement on policy matters, with an ability to negotiate practical solutions
