About Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine:

The Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine (SAPM) is responsible for the high-quality provision of care and efficient management of resources for a broad range of surgical and procedural services within Austin Health.

With over 1750 staff, the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine conducts approximately 35,000 emergency and elective procedures per year.


Made up of a variety of surgical services, encompassing the whole patient journey, the division consists of Surgical Access, Perioperative Services, Anaesthetics and Theatre Support, Cardiac Services and Specialty Services, Gastroenterology, Transplant and General Surgery and finally Orthopaedic, Plastic and ENT surgery.


The Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine is recognised for providing evidence based, customer focused care and support in a professional manner.


About the program/role:


The Postgraduate Cardiac/Cardiac Interventional Nursing Program is designed to equip participants with the required clinical skills and knowledge to perform as clinical leaders in an acute health service.

Nurses will study a dynamic program, in conjunction with experiential learning, and be supported by the Clinical Education team who have a passion for supporting new learners.

As a Post Graduate Nurse in the Cardiac/Cardiac Interventional areas, a regular day will see you:


  • Uses best available evidence and nursing expertise to improve current practice:

Performs a systematic and focused nursing assessment of patient and environment as required:


  • Plans and evaluates nursing care in consultation with patients and the multidisciplinary health care team:

Complete all program requirements as set by the university and education team

You will be someone with excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to self-development and education.
