The opportunity:


As the Administration Assistant you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of patient test requests and samples.

Supporting the Clinical Genomics laboratory, you will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of service delivery.

Our laboratory offers a unique genomic sequencing service that leverages patients' clinical presentations to drive analysis pathways.

Through a collaborative approach, involving scientists, clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors, and bioinformaticians, we provide comprehensive investigations, interpretations, and patient support for complex genetic health conditions.

The lab also offers a pre and early pregnancy genetic screening service which is supported by a team of reproductive genetic counsellors who provide educational and clinical support to patients and doctors.


In this role, you will provide crucial administrative support, ensuring all necessary paperwork, sample requirements, and data entry are completed accurately before processing patient samples.

Your work will contribute to the early availability of information for efficient sample triage and intake processes, enabling our cutting-edge analytical approach.

Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be interacting with clients and supporting the laboratory continuously.

You may also be involved in cross-training and providing support across different areas, ensuring smooth operations during busy periods and leave.


Reporting directly to the Head of Service Delivery and Development Manager, you will receive daily work direction and technical advice from the Head of Clinical Genomics Laboratory and team/section leaders.


Your responsibilities include:

To assist in the provision of the effective and efficient delivery of services by the Clinical Genomics laboratory as part of the Genomics Administration team
To be a point of reference for troubleshooting patient samples (e.g. seek missing patient demographic data, clinical information, consent forms, billing information, clinician contact details, request external laboratory reports where required)
Ensure patient referral forms have all appropriate information recorded and meet requirements for testing prior to full data entry


About you:

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or equivalent and/or a Certificate or Associate Diploma in an area of health science/practice
Technical/clerical qualifications advantageous
Understanding of specimen reception and patient information systems advantageous
Previous administration experience in a pathology laboratory setting advantageous
A conscientious and responsible approach to laboratory support work
Critical eye for detail
