Description
We are seeking full-time Groundwater Modellers to join our team, from graduates through to highly experienced professionals. We will teach you our methods and welcome you to our expert team. For those with experience, we will welcome your skills and expertise.

Our modelling headquarters is in Brisbane, however, we have the capacity to manage modellers to work with us from any of our four offices, including Newcastle, Townsville, and Perth.

About Us
At Australasian Groundwater and Environmental Consultants (AGE), we empower informed water decisions for industry, government, and communities.

Having recently celebrated 25 years in groundwater consultancy, we proudly employ the largest team of groundwater consulting specialists in Australia with over 40 full-time professionals across our Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle, and Townsville offices.

We are wholly employee owned and operated, consulting to mining and CSG sectors, infrastructure projects, water supply projects, and renewable energy projects in Australia and across the world.

Our outstanding team is a diverse group of geoscientists from all corners of the globe, bringing passion and expertise to the resources industry.

We share information openly and deliberately and we will teach our methods to you, so you can adopt, and continue in the development of Python scripts and/or FORTRAN code to interact with a 3D model.

We specialise in the use of the MODFLOW code, and its many variants. Our groundwater models are typically custom-made, using in-house code to build, run and process simulations. A GUI is rarely used.

With MODFLOW-USG, we combine the efficiencies of finite element mesh design with the numerical stability of control volume finite difference flow equations.

We favour the use of Voronoi mesh design and layer pinching that MODFLOW-USG offers to optimise model run times, allowing us to speed up the modelling process.

With automated optimisation software such as PEST to assist in the calibration of our models, we have our own high-performance computing cluster that speeds up the calibration process allowing many models to run simultaneously.

If you are excited by what you are reading, and you want to be part of this challenging and rewarding cutting edge work, come and join our team.

One of our directors and Modelling Lead, Andrew Durick details his vision here:

  • "We recognise the importance of our people in our vision for growth. I want AGE to be a place where people want to come, are engaged by challenging and rewarding work, and can map out their desired career path. We've always been early adopters of emerging processes and techniques
  • driven by passion and curiosity. Years from now, I'd love to see those currently in the early stage of their careers carving out another 10-year strategy, utilising the mastery and autonomy they've gained at AGE."

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a Groundwater Modeller, at any stage of your career, residing in, or planning to move to Australia.

You will have a bachelors degree (or higher) in geology, hydrogeology, environmental, or civil engineering. A working knowledge of MODFLOW-USG will be advantageous.

Experience with open pit, underground mining or coal seam gas processes will be a strong advantage, but is not essential.

You will have the ability to maintain an overarching view of models' purpose and required client outcomes but then delve into the detail to interrogate every piece of data and every keystroke.

A PhD in hydrogeology (or associated relevant disciplines) would be recognised but not essential. You will be seeking to advance a long-term career in groundwater modelling, in a niche consultancy that fosters innovation.

The Opportunities

You will be exposed to the assessment of impacts from resource projects on groundwater systems; development of groundwater supplies for towns, villages, mines, irrigation, stock, and domestic purposes; dewatering and groundwater control needs around mines and deep excavations and assessing groundwater to assist in the development, management and closure of landfills and mines.

Currently in a strong growth phase, AGE is expanding further in the coal seam gas and renewable energy industries as well as exploring where groundwater crosses over into ecology through groundwater dependent ecosystems (GDEs).

You will work with some of Australia's most experienced industry professionals.

We have decades of research and development that supports our robust modelling methods and we are keen to share this expertise with you.

We offer a full-time stable role and a cohesive, family friendly team. This is a long-term career opportunity, with a competitive salary. Relocation support will be provided for interstate applicants.

How to Apply
If you are based in Australia and keen to grow and build your identity in groundwater modelling as an integral part of a specialised team, please send your CV and a cover letter outlining y
