About the Opportunity:


As a Population Health Aboriginal Trainee, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with various teams within our Population Health department and the Aboriginal Health Unit.

From health promotion to public health initiatives, collaborations, research, and involvement in Breast Screen programs, you will be at the forefront of driving positive change.


The Population Health Aboriginal Trainee will be aligned to the Aboriginal Health Service and have access to the wide range of cultural supports including mentoring from experienced Aboriginal Leaders, cultural supervision, training and development opportunities as well as scope to interact with a large network of Aboriginal colleagues internally and externally in a range of service areas.

What You'll be Doing
The role of the Aboriginal Population Health Trainee is to:

  • Support the capacity of the South Western Sydney Local Health District to mount effective preventive health strategies to address chronic diseases within the Aboriginal population in NSW.
  • Develop the surge capacity of Aboriginal public health practitioners within the District who are able to support a culturally appropriate response to a variety of public health risks.
  • Contribute to NSW Health's commitment to Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health and in particular to the five priority areas described in the NSW Implementation Plan.

Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such.   • Applicants must have successfully completed a recognised undergraduate degree and be able to meet the admission requirements for the postgraduate degree of Master of Public Health (MPH) at a university in Australia. Confirmation of university acceptance into an MPH is required for appointment.
