About the Organisation:

Burnside War Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit community hospital which receives no government funding. Support from the community is vital to their success.


The Burnside Hospital Foundation was established in 1998 as the fundraising arm of the hospital with the sole purpose to raise additional funds that directly benefit the care of patients.


The Foundation raises critical funds to support the hospital in acquiring state-of-the-art medical, surgical, and supplementary equipment, ensuring superior patient care and outcomes.

These funds also contribute to the development and renovation projects, aligning with evolving accreditation standards and the growing demands of the community.


About the Role:


Reporting directly to the hospital CEO, you will focus on long term sustainable growth of a broad fundraising program, developing cases for support that engage and motivate a diverse range of existing and future donors.


With a love of being donor facing, you will drive and develop relationships with existing major donors and create stewardship and cultivation plans that build on a robust philanthropy program.


You will use your data driven experience to utilise the database to develop an appeals program that engages and inspires, and you will use your broad fundraising knowledge and best practice expertise to work towards the creation of a well-rounded fundraising program that taps into all areas of the community (corporates, philanthropic funders, community partners, bequestors etc) over time.


We are looking for someone who thrives in an environment focused on growth and while the board is invested in the growth of your team over time, you will be driven by the prospect of initially leading on both strategy development and delivery of the plans, in collaboration with the hospital marketing and administration functions.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Operational and strategic development of a new multichannel fundraising strategy with initial focus on the development of a philanthropy and appeals program with long term plans to build bequests, partnerships and broader community development streams
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the hospital to determine relevant projects for funding and craft inspiring cases for support for a range of donors
  • Engage existing major donors and create stewardship plans that cultivate these relationships, while also focusing on potential future highlevel prospects
  • Manage relationships with donors from prospect through to ask, personally soliciting high level gifts
  • Develop engagement events that inspire current and potential donors to give
  • Create donor journey and communication plans that encourage connection to the foundation, build on engagement and provide recognition of commitment
  • Utilise the hospital database to develop an appeals programme that delivers inspiring and relevant direct mail campaigns to the wider audience with endtoend oversight of campaigns
  • Build on acquisition and retention plans across the donor base to build on the appeals program and also the longterm fundraising funnel for mid value, major giving and gifts in wills
  • Drive new fundraising initiatives and products to develop the longterm sustainability of the foundation's program i.e. giving days, regular giving products, digital activity, partnership proposals etc
  • In collaboration with the hospital marketing function, develop materials to support the fundraising program and improve the amount of content, need and tangibility digitally and within collateral for all donor programs
  • Ensure the timely and effective receipting, production and distribution of correspondence for all financial transactions
  • Provide direction and support to the Burnside Hospital Foundation Committee including the preparation of meeting agendas, minutes, operational and financial reports
  • Develop relevant policies and procedures to ensure that the foundation is compliant and following a best practice approach across fundraising
  • Manage the CRM and use your strong data skills to monitor, track and report on all activity
  • Be responsible for revenue targets across the program
