About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a values-driven and proactive Assistant Thrift Shop Manager.

This position is instrumental in assisting and supporting the Thrift Shop Manager to oversee and monitor the operations of the store ensuring high level customer service, quality sorting of donated goods, pricing and maintaining the general appearance and upkeep of the shop.


As an Assistant Manager you will be responsible for fostering a culture of inclusiveness and community spirit amongst the volunteer team, which will in turn, enhance the customer experience in the store.

You will successfully

  • Assist Manager with recruiting and training new volunteers
  • Supervise staff and volunteers, including providing effective and consistent feedback and supervision meetings
  • Track daily sales in line with targets
  • Design and implement promotions
  • Encourage local community and businesses to donate quality goods to maintain sales
  • Work with manager to increase online sales and assist with online communication
  • Ensure volunteer team regularly update merchandise and displays, including mannequins
  • Cash handling cash and credit card transactions, end of day reconciliation and banking
  • Ensure all volunteers and visiting contractors follow WHS policies
  • Assist in the management of social media (Facebook and Instagram) for the store
This is a permanent part time position, 21 hours per week. Weekly roster is currently Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday availability is essential.

You will have

  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience in managing a team/volunteers
  • Complete Provide First Aid (PFA) training and be willing to be designated First Aid Provider when on site (TSA to cover cost of First Aid training (if certification not already valid), and/or biannual updates)
  • Physical ability to safely stand, sit, walk regularly and for long periods of time, push, pull, lift, carry & restrain, climb ladders, and use computer mouse and eftpos machine and undertake other inherent requirements of the role
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
