About us
Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of ever21ything we do - and we do a lot.

We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling.

The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history.

We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW - you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

The Division

The Greater Sydney Division is redefining integrated transport choices to improve the lives of customers and communities, making Greater Sydney a better place to live, work and play.

We have the single biggest place making opportunity at Transport in the coming years, reshaping Greater Sydney into a metropolis of three cities - Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parklands City - whilst also overseeing the Greater Sydney region as a whole.

The opportunity
Our customers have a love-affair with the sea.

It's not hard to see why, considering that New South Wales is home to some of the most beautiful, recognisable and well-loved waterways in the world.

NSW Maritime is responsible for managing over 2,137km of coastline and 32,242km2 of navigable waterways, educating recreational and commercial patrons on responsible waterways usage.

We're passionate about working with the community to make sure that our waterways are safe, accessible and sustainable for generations to come.

Right now, we have a rare ongoing full-time opportunity for a Boating Education Officer to join our NSW Maritime Greater Sydney Division.

As a Boating Education Officer, you will contribute to the education of the boating community on matters of safe boating, boating legislation and on-water activities.

You will communicate with the boating public at boat ramps, in schools and community centres as well as other areas attended by boat operators, passengers or others interested in boating, including boat shows and events.

This role is based in San Souci, and you will be required to cover the Port Hacking and Botany Bay areas.

  • Also required for this role is the ability to routinely work on weekends and public holidays. Along with working during the peak boating season (Boxing Day until 31 January) and occasionally undertaking out of hours work (normal span of work hours is 06:00am to 06:00pm)._
  • This is a landbased role, with a focus on fieldbased activities. At times you may be required to assist on water during emergencies or special events._

What you will be involved in:

Representing Transport for NSW at key boating locations including waterway access points and at community events such as field days and boat shows to contribute to communication and education initiatives.

Engaging in educating students in both primary and secondary schools around boating education.

Identifying opportunities to educate the boating community and supporting the development and implementation of Boating Safety Education plans in consultation with other relevant branches in the Division.

Identifying boating safety issues that require further review, monitoring or consideration and report to relevant managers within Transport for NSW.

Representing TFNSW at a state level and communicate information and advice to a diverse range of the boating public and general community to improve the standard of boating safety and adherence to legislation.

Facilitating and conducting presentations and information sessions aimed at educating the boating community.

Assisting with compliance campaigns, management of aquatic activities, audits and incident management to support on-water and other staff.

About you
You are passionate about using education, collaboration, and encouragement to influence behaviour. You are an educator at heart who loves sharing knowledge and interacting with the others.

It would be ideal if you have knowledge and experience of NSW boating legislation as it relates to recreational boating in NSW.

You have on water experience and hold a current NSW Boating Licence (or have the ability to obtain within 3 months).
