This is a temporary part time 16 hours per week leave relief position until 6th April 2025 with the possibility of extension.

What you'll be doing


Sterilisation technicians working in the Centre Core are part of the Perioperative Team with the role involved directly in the correct handling of sterile stock and the storage, and ongoing management of these items.

Sterilisation technicians work in accordance with policies and procedures set down by the ISLHD, Sterilisation Services Department (SSD), the AS/NZ 4187, ACORN and the NSW Ministry of Health Infection Control Policies.

Sterilisation Technicians have defined roles and accept responsibility in meeting the daily commitments through working effectively and efficiently as a member of the Centre Core team.

Sterilisation Technicians maintain a high standard of care and handling of sterile instrumentation and equipment.
Sterilisation Technicians understand and demonstrate accountability and escalates issues accordingly.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital and has bed base of more than 500.

The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation.

The applicant must be certified as compliant with Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases before employment can commence.

Selection Criteria

  • Holds or is currently enrolled in a Certificate III Sterilisation Technician course.
  • Recent clinical experience in a health related or hospital facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection control and standard precautions.
  • Knowledge of AS/NZS 4187 standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of automated instrument tracking systems.
