A position within the Operation System Support (OSS) group

  • This position is focused on providing end to end system analysis, management and support of Operational Support Systems (OSS) in a 24x7 environment with accountability for system availability, performance, and usability on a day to day basis, along with performing complex and in depth analysis and investigation of system and network related problems.

The position will also be required to provide technical expert advice to peers and management, assist in the development and implementation of standards and procedures across the team, perform analysis and investigation of system and network reported problems, and liaise with internal and vendor staff along with various levels of business unit management groups.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Maintain the availability and performance of the OSS systems in a 24x7 environment including the Hardware, Operating Systems (Unix, Linux & Windows), databases (Solid DB, Oracle, Sybase, MySQL) and terminal servers;
  • Technical support for all OSS services as well as vendor liaison regarding both problems and future enhancements;
  • Backup and system management of all platforms;
  • Incident and Problem management including Root Cause Analysis on major and repetitive faults;
  • Growth and remediation capacity forecasting;
  • Contributing/Maintaining the Disaster Recovery Plan and implementing annual contingency tests;
  • Controlling security and access, including user logon and registration requirements and auditing;
  • All Change Management within the portfolio domain;
  • Review current business process related to OSS and to improve efficiencies;
  • Maintaining required levels of knowledge and documentation relating to the systems;
  • Liaise with vendors, T&P, and Network engineering groups to meet present and future business requirements.
  • Performance and capacity management
  • Change and release management
  • Administer all environments (eg. Dev, Test, Training, Pre-Prod, Prod)
  • Recommend ways in which the system (either in its current or enhanced form) could better meet the business requirements

Systems Analysis and Requirements Analysis

  • Evaluation of system and operational conditions, and analysis of required system changes and/or operational procedures.
  • Preventive Maintenance Schedule;
  • Impact analysis on each version upgrade and new module integration to existing production environment

Service Level Agreement

  • Maintenance of systems to agreed Service Levels
  • Input to vendor support management

24 x 7 end to end Production support on OSS systems

  • Maximize availability and integrity of Operational Support Systems (OSS) systems. This includes;
  • Participation on roster oncall weekly rotation
  • Proactive monitoring of system health & performance & management of system outages and maintenance windows.
  • Root cause analysis on major and repetitive faults
  • Auditing system access and Implementation auditing of security policies to ensure availability, integrity and confidentiality
  • Support on downstream/ upstream interface to network platform which affect Optus consumer services
  • Close coordination and support to Network Manage Centre

Your skills and experience

  • Degree in telecommunications, computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent experience in related fields.
  • Extensive experience in the operations and management of computer based systems in a mission critical environment, in positions requiring the exercise of good technical judgement, proactive solution development complemented with a high level of customer service focus.
  • Experience and good understanding of telecommunications, transmission and switching systems, IT terminology, and a good understanding of the IT systems needed for effective and efficient delivery, activation and maintenance of services using such technology.
  • Experience in the operations and management of largescale operational support systems.

Telco/Computer/ IT skills

Essential / must have

  • HP UX, Solaris, Linux system administration
  • ORAC
