Here in Woolworths 360, we have exciting plans to continually develop our network of stores for the customer and team to ensure we serve their evolving/ future needs.


Our Network/ Location Planning team is instrumental in identifying and assessing opportunities for future network growth across Au-stralia & New Zealand, with our core purpose being to guide our business to prioritise new and renewal store investments that deliver the right space, in the right place, at the right time.


The Role


Reporting into our General Manager for Data, Network & Analytics (DNA), as a Network Planning Manager you will use your experience in location planning alongside finely tuned analytical and storytelling skills to advise our business on where to open new shops while also considering where we should expand, replace, or renew our existing stores.

You will consider the latest market trends and data to develop our multi channel (Instore / eCom) network so we can address market gaps and unlock eCommerce capacity to meet future customer needs.


You will be leading a team of network planners, working closely with Supermarkets, Metro, WooliesX, BIG W and partners alongside our Woolworths 360 DNA team, wiq and Property teams to develop and deliver our integrated points of presence plan (that's what we call our Woolworths Group multi-channel location strategy).

As well as setting location strategies you will be assessing new store/ renewal opportunities providing data led sales forecasts to inform future investment decisions.


In this role, key responsibilities will be:

  • Leading times or agile working groups to delivery priority work & projects
  • Develop & share expertise across Woolworths Group, delivering the Network Planning Assessment Framework and data led sales forecasts for new store & renewal projects.
  • Lead the development of state network strategies and new space pipeline, utilising regional market, customer loyalty & competitor activity data.
  • Build and manage senior stakeholder relationships across the business to enable collaboration within an agile working environment.
  • Collaborate with all business units e.g. Supermarkets, Metro, Endeavour Drinks partners, BIG W and WooliesX and New Zealand to help embed network location strategy, opportunity assessments, and ways of working.
  • Identify and assess customer focused new market growth opportunities and provide market opportunity assessment studies (including sales & impacts forecasting), to inform investment decisions.
  • Lead the development of our network planning capability staying in tune with global best practice so we can to enable data based decision making which informs Capex investment decisions and commercial deliverables
  • Forecast financial / non financial outcomes resulting from network changes and competitor impacts

Who we're looking for

  • Significant previous location or network planning experience, preferably with a large retailer or specialist property/ retail consultancy
  • Demonstration of your ability to constantly innovate, take chances and drive change that improve ways of working and process
  • Experience of successfully developing team capability and of delivering great work through others.
  • Retail experience utilising spatial data and GIS technologies (e.g. MapInfo) to forecast new store sales
  • A passion for retail site selection and store location analysis with a strategic, analytical mindset that enables you to solve complex business problems
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders while working to tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and storytelling skills and an ability to work effectively within a team environment within an Agile organisational structure
  • Degree or Postgraduate qualifications in Geography, Economics, Town Planning, Commerce or Property preferred (but not essential)
